Nationally, over 40,000 Australians die from cardiovascular diseases (an umbrella term used for a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels) each year, with nearly 600,000 hospitalised. Heart disease also remains the leading cause of death and disease burden globally.
In recognition of World Heart Day (29 September 2024), distinguished researcher and advocate for effective secondary prevention of heart disease, Professor Julie Redfern (Director of the Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare, Bond University) will be presenting at a Speaking of Science online event on Thursday 26 September 2024 from 11:00 to 12:00 AEST.
Professor Redfern will discuss the impactful research she leads as Chief Investigator of the SOLVE-CHD NHMRC Synergy Grant that is aiming to solve the long-standing evidence-practice gap associated with cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease. The goal of SOLVE-CHD is to transform post-hospital care for people with heart disease and reduce the burden of heart disease by decreasing deaths, hospitalisations and costs via a program of work that integrates data, technology, partnerships and capacity building.
There will be an opportunity to engage and ask questions of Professor Redfern through a Q&A session.
