This week, 18-24 May 2026, is National Volunteer Week, Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering, highlighting the important role of volunteers in our community.
As Vivien Williamson, Heartbeat Secretary says “Heartbeat Victoria is an organisation totally run by volunteers, and this week is a great opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate the work of our tireless volunteers.
Our volunteer Committee members, cardiac rehab supporters, fundraisers, well being buddies, walk leaders, and organisers of education and social events are critical to Heartbeat’s role in providing peer support, social connection and exercise for individuals and their families affected by heart disease and heart-related conditions.
We could not do what we do without them and we hope you can take the opportunity to recognise and celebrate their contribution in the coming week (as well as every other week of the year)!”
And Christine Rees, Heartbeat President adds: “Acknowledging that all our members and Board are all volunteers is important as we all have busy lives and being a totally volunteer organisation sets us apart.
Well done to all our volunteers in Heartbeat Victoria including our Board and officials and thank you for all you do for the cardiac community. I feel certain we are changing our communities, improving education and making sure that cardiac care is better understood, managed and easier to manage.”
